Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 26, 2026

Introduction

The Pulse ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service").

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide via Social Login

When you create an account using a social login provider, we collect:

  • Name: Your first and/or last name as provided by the social login provider.
  • Email Address: Your email address for account identification. Note: Sign in with Apple allows you to hide your email address.
  • User ID: An opaque identifier from the authentication provider for account management.

Information Stored Locally on Your Device

The following information is stored only on your device and is never sent to our servers:

  • Location Data: With your permission, your precise location is used on-device only to calculate distance to venues and events. Your location is never transmitted to our servers or shared with any third party.
  • Preferences: Your selected community/locale, layout preferences (list/grid view), and other app settings.

Information Collected Automatically

We use Firebase Analytics to understand how users interact with our app. Firebase may collect:

  • Usage Data: App launches, screen views, feature usage, and user interactions
  • Device Information: Device type, operating system version, and app version
  • Crash Data: Crash logs and performance diagnostics

This data is used solely to improve the app and is not used for advertising or tracking purposes.

Information We Do NOT Collect

We want to be transparent about what we don't collect:

  • Advertising IDs or identifiers used for ad targeting
  • Browsing history outside the app
  • Search history (searches are not logged)
  • Health, fitness, or financial information
  • Contacts or address book data

Third-Party Services

Firebase (Authentication, Analytics & Diagnostics)

We use Firebase Authentication for secure account access, Firebase Analytics to understand how users interact with our app, and Firebase Crashlytics to identify and fix bugs. Firebase collects usage data, device information, and crash reports. This data is used solely to improve the app experience and is not used for advertising. For more information, see Firebase's Privacy Information.

Social Login Providers

When you sign in using a social login provider, that provider shares limited profile information with us (name and email). We support the following providers:

  • Google: Privacy Policy
  • Apple: Privacy Policy (offers Hide My Email feature)
  • Facebook: Privacy Policy
  • Microsoft: Privacy Statement
  • Snapchat: Privacy Policy

Azure (Hosting)

Our backend API is hosted on Microsoft Azure. Azure processes API requests but does not have access to your personal information beyond what is necessary to route and respond to requests.

BunnyCDN (Content Delivery)

We use BunnyCDN to deliver images and static content. BunnyCDN may log standard request data (IP address, user agent) for operational purposes.

How We Use Your Information

  • Authentication: To verify your identity and maintain your session
  • App Functionality: To enable features, prevent fraud, and implement security measures
  • Distance Calculation: To show how far venues and events are from your current location (on-device only)
  • Customer Support: To respond to your inquiries if you contact us

How We Do NOT Use Your Information

  • We do not use your information for advertising or marketing
  • We do not share your information with data brokers
  • We do not track you across other apps or websites
  • We do not sell your personal information
  • We do not use your data for analytics or user behavior profiling

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share information only in the following limited circumstances:

  • Service Providers: Third parties who help us operate the Service (authentication via Firebase, hosting via Azure, CDN via BunnyCDN) under strict data protection agreements.
  • Legal Requirements: When required by law, subpoena, or to protect our legal rights.
  • Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice to you.

Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, including:

  • HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
  • Secure authentication via Firebase
  • No storage of sensitive credentials on our servers

However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.

Data Retention

We retain your account information (name, email, user ID) for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account and all associated personal data at any time using the self-service deletion feature in the app, or by contacting us.

Data Deletion

You have the right to delete your personal data at any time. You can do this through:

  1. In-App (Recommended): Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account. Deletion is processed immediately.
  2. By Email: Send a deletion request to hello@thepulse.guide with "Data Deletion Request" in the subject line. We will process email requests within 30 days.
  3. Via Contact Form: Use our contact form and select "Data Deletion Request" as the topic. We will process these requests within 30 days.

What We Delete

When you delete your account, we permanently delete:

  • Your account profile (name, email, user ID)
  • Your Firebase authentication account
  • Saved favorites (events and artists)
  • Device tokens used for push notifications
  • Content flags you submitted
  • Trust and reputation records
  • User-uploaded images from our CDN

What We Retain

Events and venues you submitted to the platform are community content and are retained after account deletion. Your personal attribution (name, user ID) is removed from this content — it will no longer be associated with you in any way. This is consistent with the content license granted in our Terms of Service.

Admin Accounts

Accounts with administrative roles cannot be self-deleted through the app. If you are an administrator and wish to delete your account, please contact another administrator.

Third-Party Data

Deleting your Pulse account does not delete data held by social login providers (Google, Apple, Facebook, Microsoft, Snapchat). To revoke access, visit your account settings on those platforms.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Object to or restrict processing of your data
  • Data portability
  • Withdraw consent at any time

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the information below.

Location Data

When you grant location permission, the app accesses your precise location solely to calculate distances to venues and events. This calculation happens entirely on your device. Your location is:

  • Never sent to our servers
  • Never stored or logged
  • Never shared with third parties
  • Never used for tracking or advertising

You can revoke location permission at any time in your device settings. The app will continue to work; you simply won't see distance information.

Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
